God. That hurt.

... Baby seems okay, I think.

... Though, I'm more concerned how to make an Alien Protaganist in a Harem Comedy not seem stupid with his origin story.

Well, let's take a couple different things as examples. There's the Disney Beast. Completely selfish and spoiled, needs a girl to break the curse, and basically kidnaps a girl to try and un-curse himself. Of course he's completely awkward to try and make him likable, but ultimately he's kinda on the creepy side, if you think about it a while.

Other example, Tenchi from the old OVA series. He's kind of a brat but good at heart, but he doesn't have any real designs he's trying to fill out... he just steps up to protect the girls even though they give him headaches sometimes.

Then there's some others, I think. I've heard of one where the guy is considered a demon, so girls are sent to his private island as sacrifices of sorts. They build a city or something and live lives... probably should read it someday. Anyway, he's on the not-selfish side, since he's not the one who forced the girls into anything.

Then another where a guy was obsessed with ideal body parts, and was crazy protective of anyone with even one ideal part. He's more on the selfish side since he's basically hording the girls for his own libido, I guess.

I think I've heard of one where a guy needed to marry someone for some reason, and there was a contest for it... I can't tell you much about it, so can't say which side it fits on.

tl;dr: The more stake the guy has into getting the girl other than the girl themselves, the less people are going to admire his efforts.

I always found Beauty and the Beast and Ai Kora cute, honestly.

... Shina Dark?

[identity profile] pureplainpatron.livejournal.com 2010-12-29 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
...sounds like you might have heard of all of those.

In any case, do you kinda see what I'm getting at?

[identity profile] pureplainpatron.livejournal.com 2010-12-29 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
...I was afraid you'd say that.

[identity profile] blackrthanblack.livejournal.com 2010-12-29 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
Personally I like the luckless asshole type.

[identity profile] pureplainpatron.livejournal.com 2010-12-29 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
Ah.

...

;.;

I'm trying to be good...! ...or at least, not a complete jerk...!

[identity profile] blackrthanblack.livejournal.com 2010-12-29 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
... What's wrong with being a jerk?

I like you're good yeah, but don't be squeaky clean for me. God. That'd be dumb.

[identity profile] pureplainpatron.livejournal.com 2010-12-29 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
I couldn't manage squeaky clean even if I tried with everything I had.

And I don't mind being a jerk to a select few, but I don't want to be seen as a jerk in general.

[identity profile] blackrthanblack.livejournal.com 2010-12-29 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
Good.

Also, I had a scary dream about the crazy hobo girl who lives with us.

[identity profile] pureplainpatron.livejournal.com 2010-12-29 08:17 am (UTC)(link)
...scary dream?

...has she been bothering you?

[identity profile] blackrthanblack.livejournal.com 2010-12-29 09:38 am (UTC)(link)
We were having a nice talk. Then I called her Toots and an evil multi-eyed darkness ate me. :(

[identity profile] pureplainpatron.livejournal.com 2010-12-29 10:09 am (UTC)(link)
That's... definitely different.

Pretty sure she's had some sort of male-related trauma, though, so maybe you triggered something?

Quite the reaction either way, though.

Then again, she's always been a bit 'off'... just especially so since Vidya took her in.

[identity profile] blackrthanblack.livejournal.com 2010-12-29 10:15 am (UTC)(link)
Just 'cuz I'd call a girl "Toots", "Dame", or "Broad" doesn't mean I'm objectifyin' 'em.

... Maybe that Darkness is why she's crazy.

[identity profile] pureplainpatron.livejournal.com 2010-12-29 10:20 am (UTC)(link)
Still, she hates even metro-sexual men, so anything especially masculine, especially of the more vulgar, could stir unpleasant memories. ...or perhaps just a knee-jerk reaction. Who knows with her.

Who knows. Could just be a symbol of the craziness you see in her.

...I wouldn't think you'd know her well enough to have dreams about her, though.

[identity profile] blackrthanblack.livejournal.com 2010-12-29 10:21 am (UTC)(link)
Nor did I. I think she was implying I'm uncouth, a hellion, and needlessly bawdy and stuff?

[identity profile] pureplainpatron.livejournal.com 2010-12-29 10:25 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe it's from an internal struggle between your more masculine nature and the more feminine side due to the pregnancy and upcoming motherhood? The darkness is the worry that you might lose yourself in the transition or something?

I don't know, dreams are kind of the screensavers of the brain, so they don't always make sense... or mean anything.

[identity profile] blackrthanblack.livejournal.com 2010-12-29 10:26 am (UTC)(link)
... So should I start bein' girly or what. I'm confused.

[identity profile] pureplainpatron.livejournal.com 2010-12-29 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't worry too much about it, love. I think you're finding your own way, which is a much better balance than trying to make yourself fit any specific mold.

I'd think the dream just shows the internal conflict. It's not like you should change yourself over it.

[identity profile] pureplainpatron.livejournal.com 2010-12-30 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
...or I could have been completely wrong, and you actually were in her dream.

So it means absolutely nothing.

...besides the fact the girl has issues.

[identity profile] blackrthanblack.livejournal.com 2010-12-30 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
And how could I be in her dream?

[identity profile] pureplainpatron.livejournal.com 2010-12-30 06:41 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know, exactly, but I know it's not the first time it's happened... it happened to me once, and let's just say I know the difference.

Just as a test, though, how many eyes did the darkness have, do you remember? And what was the area like before it attacked?

[identity profile] blackrthanblack.livejournal.com 2010-12-30 07:51 am (UTC)(link)
The world we live on before you made it more awesome. 5~8 Red Eyes.

[identity profile] pureplainpatron.livejournal.com 2010-12-30 08:06 am (UTC)(link)
That more or less syncs up with what Souha said, and it's really nearly impossible for you both to have such a similar dream about someone you both have very little contact with in the same night.

Maybe if you and Souha were attached at the hip or something, but generally the likelyhood is effectively 0.

Some effect is likely filtering through the link that allows us to get TV, internet, and all that good stuff. If I worked on it I could probably come up with ways on how it's happening, but we'd still be left with the bigger question of why.

I might do some research of my own, related to this, though. Let me know if you share any more dreams, will you love?
